Elon Musk: How people must merge with machines
Visionary and technology futurist, Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has said that over time we will see a closer fusion of biological intelligence and digital intelligence. Essentially humans must, or will, merge with machines.
Musk was addressing an audience at the 2017 World Government Summit in Dubai. “Humans need to merge with machines to become a sort of cyborg,” says Musk. “It’s mostly about the bandwidth, the speed of the connection between your brain and the digital version of yourself, particularly output.”
Musk explained further: “Computers can communicate at a trillion bits per second, while humans, whose main communication method is typing with their fingers via a mobile device, can do about 10 bits per second.”
“A high bandwidth interface to the brain will be something that helps achieve a symbiosis between human and machine intelligence and maybe solves the control problem and the usefulness problem,” Musk explained.
